We are finally here! We arrived 5:30 Honduras time (7:30 EDT). Needless to say it was a long day. Since the airport in Tegucigalpa is only operating on a temporary basis we had to fly into San Pedro Sula and drive 140 miles (a 4 ½ hour drive by van) to Tegucigalpa. Our flights were smooth and uneventful but the drive here was quite exciting. It has rained most of the day and we witnessed 3 automobile wrecks on the way, including an overturned 18-wheeler and an overturned dump truck with gravel spread over the road. Instead of dodging deer by the road we dodged horses, cows, donkeys and chickens as we made our way to Lydia’s, the guest house where we are staying. Our driver was quite aggressive yet skilled in mountainous driving. We arrived in the city in the middle of rush hour. We have noticed only one stop light, no stop signs and the “best man wins mentality” when maneuvering the crowded streets of Tegucigalpa.
Lydia had dinner waiting for us when we arrived and her guest house was a welcome sight for all. We met Pastor Keeter, missionary from King’s Mt., NC. Seventeen of us will be traveling with him by van to San Ignacio tomorrow to take supplies and get ready for Bible School and a carnival that we will be having on Sunday. We have felt the prayers of everyone back home and know that God was protecting us today as we traveled. Please continue to pray for our safety and for good weather while we are here.
